activities and affairs about artemia have started since 1367 in the form of aquatic animals section of Azarbaijan Gharbi's Jihad-e-sazandeghi organization and in 1369 via the formation of the Fisheries organization representation of the provience , as a collection nominated as the Center of Development and Utilization of Artemia started and expanded its further activities in the field of evaluation of basens , harvesting and utilization in order to get to new and innovative ways of methodical and scientific utilizing, harvesting , processing and packaging . in year 1379 in order to develop the new artemian industry and research projects about it , this center has been added to the Iranian Fisheries Research Center . according to the importance of artemia and the possibility of its expansion to the other proviences of the country , this center was named Iranian Artemia Research Center.In addition to it with respect to the water basens within the country and the geographical and climate specifications of it , existance of valuable potencials in fish breeding , divesity of the fisheries activities, in proviences like western Azarbaijan , eastern Azarbaijan and kordestan and the growth rate of these activities and the investments on them , accomplishment of the other research projects for different types of aquatic animals is one of the aims and research programs of this center.

according to the national and international work done and reports from the representatives of the organization about facilities and the potencial of the country and with respect to the special importance of the Lake Urmia's ecosystem and the specific artemia spicies of it ,food and agriculture organization (FAO) of United Nations signed a document of understanding with Iranian Fisheries Research Center to strat the Artemia Rfrence center of the Middle and Western Asia with local , national and global aims and I.R.Iran was chosen as the artemia reference center of the mentioned area.
